SINGLE PREMIERE: ‘Tomorrow is a New Day’ by Team Love
The follow-up to the late 2024 release 'Winter'
If you listen to the lyrics of ‘Tomorrow is a New Day’ by Melbourne alt-country band Team Love, you’ll find an incredibly honest take on life and difficulties with it, delivered in a way that is relatable, and that also has built within it the way to manage those difficulties. Indeed, it’s in the song’s title – seeing the future as a chance for renewal – and it’s also in the music that buttresses the lyrics: the almost comforting guitar, the sense of momentum moving through it all. And, of course, the fact that the song exists at all, as vocalist and songwriter Ruby McGrath-Lester is there to sing her lyrics.
Team Love has as its members McGrath-Lester and five bandmates: Ruby Cattell (violin/vocals), Monique Bricknell (keys/vocals), Shaun Stolk (electric guitar/vocals), Paddy McGrath-Lester (drums/vocals) and Tom Thomas (bass). They released their self-titled debut album in 2020; the single ‘Winter’, released in October last year, was the first from their upcoming second album from which ‘Tomorrow is a New Day’ is also taken.

McGrath-Lester says the new song, which is having its premiere here today, started to take shape in late 2021.
‘So it’s unsurprising it has a real “pondering your life during lockdown” vibe. It’s a song about wanting to use your time productively and valuably but feeling unsuccessful at doing so despite how hard you try; the time just keeps slipping away.
‘We recorded it last year in Melbourne, and near the Victorian town of Hepburn Springs (where Monique, Tom, Paddy and I grew up). It’s funny to reflect on the lyrics about wanting to have a child but being unsure if you are ready versus “Winter”, which is about losing a pregnancy, and now having a happy 4.5-month-old!’
Team Love is launching ‘Tomorrow is a New Day’ on 25 May at The Gem Bar in Collingwood, Victoria. FB EVENT | TICKETS
