Sydney singer-songwriter and multiple Golden Guitar winner Luke O’Shea performs live in several permutations: solo; duo shows with Lyn Bowtell or Ashleigh Dallas; and with his band Medicine Wheel. Last night at The Beer Shed in Sydney was a Medicine Wheel show and it was two sets of musical excellence and O’Shea at his funniest, heartfelt best.
The sets drew from his entire catalogue, including his latest album, Different Drum, which contains his Golden Guitar-winning single ‘South East Queensland’, which is the song in this clip. O’Shea has a song, ‘Begin & End in Love’, that he often includes in sets and it is also a descriptor of his shows, and him as an artist in general: his intentions as a songwriter, singer, performer flow from the love he has for music, for connection, for the world in general. He’s a rare artist and that’s why so many fans have stayed with him for years. Including the always impressive Allison Forbes, who was a surprise opening act, playing a few songs. The ‘official’ support act was Kim McCartin, who travelled from the Sunshine Coast and released a single ‘Head Above Water’ earlier this year after a long break from music.
